Lafayette Park is the first public park in the City of St. Louis, the oldest public park in Missouri and perhaps one of the oldest West of the Mississippi. The park has numerous historical monuments, extensive landscaping, buildings, lakes, pavilions, gas lighting, and an extensive system of paved walks and roadways. A monumental iron fence and stone gates were added which typified the importance the general public gave to urban parks during the last half of the 19th century. Features included renovations to a Historical Police Station, Music Stand, Band Stand, Chinese Pavilion, Boat House, Bridge, Lighting, Fence, Lakes, Extensive Landscaping, Waterfall Features, and Repair of numerous public monuments.
